About Me
I am an energetic and naturally curious web application developer, content manager, and information technology enthusiast. I have singlehandedly built web applications for a virtual reference service’s social networking sites and adapted similar applications for traditional websites. I enjoy the challenge of taking a loose concept for a new service and creating a custom, interactive tool.
While earning my Master of Library and Information Science primarily through online classes, I specialized in technology courses such as Instructional Design and Visualization of Knowledge. I also supplemented my scholastic endeavors with constant on-the-job training and continuing education workshops. I have had mentors teach me their tricks of the trade in web design and functionality.
I am fluent in HTML and CSS building. I am proficient in editing PHP and JavaScript. Additionally, I set up, maintained, and wrote weekly blogs for the Ask a Librarian MySpace page. I created Facebook pages for Ask a Librarian and the Tampa Bay Library Consortium utilizing web applications to provide dynamic and engaging content. While at TBLC, I designed tutorials on profile design and web application building, and taught classes for librarians on social networking services.
While at Salisbury University, I have expanded the formats and tools I use to include ASP, SQL, and widget building tools for Delicious accounts and RSS feeds. Being in an academic environment has allowed me to gain experience working with students, faculty, reference and circulation librarians in providing web and digitial services support. Co-teaching library instruction courses, evaluating instruction sessions through various reporting tools, and aiding with collection development and subject guide webpages in conjunction with subject liaisons have also been worthwhile experiences.
